Jan Kilby01 photo by Mark Organek Feb 2 2017Since 1993, Jan Kilby has been a writing consultant.  She helps those in business and the professions write better to enhance their productivity, image, and customer relations.  She works with authors and writers to make their work more publishable.  She edits and evaluates documents and offers writing training seminars and individual coaching.  Her clients include seventy-eight businesses and individuals in several states.  She enjoys helping people who are successful as writers and those who aspire to be.

She has been a freelance writer since 1974 and has over two hundred publications.  She has received writing awards from the International Association of Business Communicators, the Society of Professional Journalists, the Texas Community College Journalism Association, and the San Antonio Writers Guild.

She also provides tutoring in English, writing, reading, the social sciences, test preparation, study  skills, and other subjects.  Her tutoring clients include students in grades one through college and adults.

She has also been an adjunct instructor in English and in English as a Second Language at a college.  She has taught an editing course in a community education program of a school district.

Since 1972, she has given 134 speeches and seminars, many related to writing.

She previously taught English and education courses at colleges in Texas, Illinois, and Minnesota.  She was an administrator in colleges in Minnesota and Illinois, at the National Council of Teachers of English, and at a higher education consortium.   In addition, she taught high school English.

She earned a BA in English, French, and secondary education at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and an MA in English at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.  She received a Ph.D. in English education at the University of Texas at Austin.  She also completed four MBA courses at the University of Illinois-Urbana and four journalism courses at San Antonio College.
